What the bot does

Haze now
Send /psi for the 24-hr PSI and 1-hr PM2.5 for your area, each coloured on NEA's bands with a line of advice. Tap Refresh to update the reading in place. When the air is bad enough, it adds a rough "about one cigarette per X hours outdoors" line, a rule of thumb from Berkeley Earth.
24-hour chart
Send /trend to see whether the air is getting better or worse: the last 24 hours of 1-hr PM2.5 for your area, drawn on NEA's colour bands. Charts are limited to one every few seconds.
Your area
Pick North, South, East, West or Central with /region and everything is about your part of Singapore. Choose All of Singapore and it shows the worst region first.
Morning brief
Get the reading sent to you at 6, 7, 8 or 9 am Singapore time, before you head out. Set it with /daily, turn it off with /stop. It is optional and off until you set it.

What the haze numbers mean

Singapore's air is reported two ways. The 24-hr PSI averages the last day and is NEA's official health measure, so it moves slowly. The 1-hr PM2.5 is the fine-particle level over the past hour, so it shows a change in the air sooner. The bot gives you both for your part of the island.

24-hr PSI bands

0-50 Good
Normal activities are fine.
51-100 Moderate
Normal activities are fine.
101-200 Unhealthy
Reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity. Sensitive groups should avoid it.
201-300 Very unhealthy
Avoid outdoor activity. Wear an N95 outdoors if you must go out.
301+ Hazardous
Stay indoors, keep windows closed, and wear an N95 if you must go out.

1-hr PM2.5 bands (µg/m³)

  • 0-55 Normal
  • 56-150 Elevated
  • 151-250 High
  • 251+ Very high

Bands are NEA's. For health decisions, check haze.gov.sg.

About

A Telegram bot that reports Singapore's air quality from NEA data, by region. It gives the 24-hr PSI (NEA's official health measure) and the 1-hr PM2.5 (what's in the air right now), a chart of the last 24 hours, and an optional morning brief. This page is just the way in: tap Open in Telegram and send /psi.

Is there a Telegram bot for Singapore's PSI?
Yes, this one: @sgpsibot. Send /psi for the 24-hr PSI and 1-hr PM2.5 in your area, /trend for a 24-hour chart, or /daily for a morning brief. It is free and unofficial.
How often does the haze reading update?
NEA publishes new readings hourly. The bot caches them for about ten minutes, so what it shows is at most one NEA reading behind.
What PSI is unhealthy?
NEA's 24-hr PSI bands: 0-50 Good, 51-100 Moderate, 101-200 Unhealthy, 201-300 Very unhealthy, 301 and above Hazardous. The bot colours the reading on these and adds a line of advice. For health decisions, check haze.gov.sg.
What's the difference between PSI and PM2.5?
24-hr PSI is NEA's official health measure and moves slowly, because it averages the last 24 hours. 1-hr PM2.5 is the fine-particle level over the past hour, so it shows a change in the air sooner. The bot shows both, coloured on NEA's bands.
Which area does it report?
Pick North, South, East, West or Central with /region, or choose all of Singapore and it shows the worst region first.
How does the morning brief work?
Send /daily and pick 6, 7, 8 or 9 am (Singapore time). Each morning at that hour the bot sends the reading for your area. It is off until you set it, and /stop turns it off.
What does the 24-hour chart show?
Send /trend for the last 24 hours of 1-hr PM2.5 in your area, drawn on NEA's colour bands, so you can see whether the air is clearing or getting worse.
What does the bot store?
Your Telegram name, your choices (area and morning time), when you first and last used it, usage counts and any feedback you send. It runs separately from this site, which stores nothing about you for it. It only talks in private chats, and leaves any group it is added to.
Is it official?
No. It is unofficial and not affiliated with NEA. The data comes from data.gov.sg and is only as fresh as NEA's latest reading. For health decisions, check haze.gov.sg.
