About
Pick a category (length, weight, volume, temperature, speed, time, pressure, area or data size) and every unit in it is shown at once. Type a number in any box and all the others update as you go. Conversions use the exact defined factors, and the result is shown to 10 significant digits with no rounding noise.
- How do I convert between two units?
- Type your number in the box for the unit you have and read the answer in the box for the unit you want. You can start typing in any box, and it becomes the one the others follow.
- How do you convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
- Multiply by 9/5 and add 32. To go back, subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9. Kelvin is Celsius plus 273.15. So 100 °C is 212 °F and 373.15 K, and -40 is the same in both °C and °F.
- Are the US and UK gallons different?
- Yes. A US gallon is 3.785 L and a UK (imperial) gallon is 4.546 L. Volume units are US unless marked UK, and a US cup is 236.588 mL.
- How long is a month or a year here?
- A year is 365.25 days and a month is a twelfth of a year, 30.4375 days. Real months and years vary, so treat those two as averages.
- How do I convert psi to bar or kPa?
- Pick Pressure and type the psi value. Bar and kPa update beside it: 1 psi is about 0.0689 bar or 6.895 kPa, so a 32 psi tire is about 2.2 bar or 221 kPa.
- Why does a 1 TB drive show up as less than 1 TB?
- Drive makers count in powers of 1000 (1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes) while many operating systems report in powers of 1024, where the same drive is about 931 GiB. Both are shown in the Data size category.
- Are the conversions exact?
- The factors are the exact definitions (an inch is exactly 25.4 mm and a pound exactly 0.45359237 kg). Answers are rounded to 10 significant digits for display.
- Can I type numbers like 1,234.5 or 1e3?
- Yes to both. Commas work as thousands separators, so a European-style 1,5 is flagged instead of being read as 15.
